Online Participation

Wikimania 2008 Alexandria :: Change the shape of wisdom

Online Participation refers to the participation of individuals unable to attend the conference in-person.

To cater those that cannot attend the Wikimania 2008 conference, the team have organized 'online streaming' options (like what was provided during last Wikimania). The online team will be active and editing the wiki with links to the streams so Wikimedians do not miss out on any of the Wikimania 2008 action. Online Audio/Video streaming will also be available through Bibliotheca Alexandrina Webcast service, in case that you don't use Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer, there is a workaround how-to for GNU/Linux users in Linuxawy blog.

Although there is a mailing list that users can post to during the conference, most users will be most active on IRC.

Internet Relay Chat is a form of real-time contact where users are able to speak to others live through a server interface. As Wikimedia uses the freenode network for IRC needs, we will also do the same. Please feel free to use the CGI:IRC client here or download a IRC client and connect to irc.freenode.net. Below are the channels available to Wikimania users.

  • #wikimania - Primary Wikimania channel for general chat.
  • #wikimania2008 - Primary planning and discussion channel for Wikimania 2008.
  • #wikimania-rc - A recent changes feed from this wiki.

If you have any questions or would like to speak to someone regarding the information outlined above, why not join us on IRC today.
