About scholarships application and translation

Well first of all, hi, as you may see from my sign, I'm Legion Fi, a 22 years old senior computer engineering student in Mexico (you can check out my Wikipedia user page at Legion fi). I do understand that the scholarship page related to this talk page is still a draft (or so I infer from the history), but I would like to express to the scholarship committee that I have not only the intention but the strong desire to attend Wikimania 2008 and that to do so I will be seeking a partial scholarship (I'm working atm to reduce the amount I will be needing). I listed myself in the 50% chance list of unofficial attendees a few weeks ago (under an IP). Also I would like to collaborate to the wikimania 2008 organization by translating this scholarship page and any other pages you may see fit into Spanish. I will start this article translation asap and other as requested. Thank you. --Legion fi 18:12, 23 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Clumsy (i.e. incorrect) grammar

request for support on the following expenses are strongly DISCOURAGED

I'd have said either

requests are strongly DISCOURAGED

or

request is strongly DISCOURAGED

but not

request are strongly DISCOURAGED

which is what it says. At the top it says "This page is finished." Otherwise I might have clicked on "edit" and fixed it. 75.72.179.139 17:11, 5 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

You're right, but I would note the second option should be 'a request...'. 128.180.235.25 23:00, 5 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Poisson d'Avril?

Kylu 04:24, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Confirmation?

Is there any way I can confirm whether my scholarship application was received? I did not receive any confirmation email after submitting the form. - 59.95.192.147 05:59, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

You can probably request a confirmation by e-mailing the Scholarship committee at wikimania-scholarships(at)wikimedia.org. Cbrown1023 talk 13:25, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Going to Cairo instead of Alexandria

The page should probably note that it may for some people be a lot cheaper to fly to Cairo, then take a train to Alexandria. The price of my ticket (from Oslo) went from over 8000 NOK (~1000 €) to under 4000 NOK (~500 €) when I compared Cairo and Alexandria prices. So by having people go to Cairo instead may help save a lot money so that even more scholarships can be considered. Jon Harald Søby 14:32, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

The cost of the tickets is significantly reduced if the flights are to Cairo, instead of Alexandria. I believe it takes four hours by the means of public transport to reach Alexandria from Cairo. (The distance by road is approximately 200 kilometres ~ 120 miles) This and also the opportunity to give the pyramids a visit. (-: Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington 12:03, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Application Form

My ISP (Earthlink, Inc.) is returning some kind of error, I think it's a DNS error for this link Application Form. 24.199.71.191 15:36, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

There is a DNS probably with that link, it should be fixed very soon. Cbrown1023 talk 15:52, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Fixed should be working now. Cbrown1023 talk 16:07, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Working, thank you. =) 24.199.71.191 16:09, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Is there any problem with the Application form link? The link does not working today!--Bellayet 04:43, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

QQ ... Yes, there seems to be a problem currently. :( I saw the form yesterday, but didn't fill it out as I wanted to gather some info about the prices of the trip... And know it see that the DNS problem is back. I'm sure they'll fix it asap... :) --Legion fi 05:54, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Full protection

There's no need for this page to be fully protected. Can someone unlock it please. Majorly (talk) 12:37, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Unprotected by Danny (obviously you know this because you edited it, but Az gets annoyed when we don't respond to people :-P). Cbrown1023 talk 20:18, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I finished translation in Dutch

Please transfer to the main section with a language link (= a blue word "Dutch") to this Dutch completed version at the top of the page. I suppose I didn't omit anything of the English sample version.RobSchop 01:01, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Done. Thanks. --Az1568 07:09, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Result

I’ve update the french translation.

I’ve got a question : when will be the results know ? Even approximately : is it in some days or July 16 ? VIGNERON * discut. 16:13, 24 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Should be sometime this week. Majorly talk 18:14, 24 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yep, we’re soon Friday ... VIGNERON * discut. 14:20, 30 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Indeed, I'm just as fed up with waiting as you are. The team are working as fast as they can... Majorly talk 15:19, 30 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sadly, it will be to late for me. Maybe next time. VIGNERON * discut. 17:36, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
It'll probably be too late for me, that is, if my application was accepted. To not even know at this late stage is frankly quite rude. Majorly talk 17:51, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it is quite late to make arrangements now. Even the ticket price that I saw while quoting my scholarship has gone up and will keep on increasing as the date approaches. It would be very good for someone from the committee to explain why this delay is taking place. Last Wikimania, we had the results by the 1st week of May even though the conference was scheduled for August.
It's a surprisingly high number of applicants, and not enough people to sort through them. I have already offered to help out next year to avoid such a thing happening again. Majorly talk 00:44, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
