Thanks! I've added them to the sidebar. :-) Cbrown1023 talk 14:55, 13 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Javascript for RTL CSS

Here's some working JS for loading the RTL CSS via a URL parameter (&rtl=1, so URL would look like http://wikimania2008.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Main_Page/ar&uselang=ar&rtl=1). You might want to have Splarka or AzaToth look it over for crappiness before adding it to Common.js though as it uses w:AJAX, which I'm not very good at. Also, Internet Explorer has too much fail so I had to disable it for IE. If I can track down Splarka or AzaToth I'll try to figure out why it doesn't work in IE. Mr.Z-man 22:51, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

/me huggles MrZ-man! It works! :-D Cbrown1023 talk 02:54, 24 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I just talked to Splarka on IRC and the new version now works for Internet Explorer, you can copy the updated script into the site JS :-) Mr.Z-man 04:57, 24 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
It also uses a newer version (from test.wp) of a script that is already in the Common.js here, so you'll need to remove the current importStylesheet function (pasted below)
function importStylesheet( page ) {
   page = encodeURIComponent(page.replace(/ /g, '_' ));
   if (importedScripts[page]) return; else importedScripts[page] = true;
   if (document.createStyleSheet) {
      document.createStyleSheet(wgScript + '?title=' + page + "&action=raw&ctype=text/css");
   } else {
      var styleElem = document.createElement('style');
      styleElem.setAttribute('type', 'text/css');
      styleElem.appendChild(document.createTextNode('@import "' + wgScript + '?title=' + page + '&action=raw&ctype=text/css";'));
The new one is included in my (well, really Splarka's now) script. Mr.Z-man 05:13, 24 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think I've updated it. :-) Can you check? Thanks! Cbrown1023 talk 17:51, 24 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks --Markie 22:56, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Heh, I'm on holiday right now though Markie, so I wasn't able to make the meeting! (just checkign my e-mail and saw that I had a message here) Can I get a summary or something? Cbrown1023 talk 03:08, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
"/me waves kibble" Here's pretty much what was discussed on IRC (if you haven't seen it already), Wikimania:Official Website Proposal#Summary; also sent you an email (@Comcast.net) with some additional info. --Az1568 03:55, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Could you add this template to: Schedule? Thank you!

We don't really want those pages translated yet because they are just placeholders. :-) But I added it anyway because you translated the page. Cbrown1023 talk 19:44, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
No problem, thanks for all workers there, and for you!--OsamaK 09:15, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hello! Any ideas how to link the logo to the appropriate Main Page as per user language? Thanks!--OsamaK 19:59, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't think it's possible. :-( Cbrown1023 talk 20:54, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
What about Wikimedia Commons? --OsamaK 07:05, 17 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't recall exactly how they manange that, you might want to ask them about it. It may be too much work for too little gain. Cbrown1023 talk 16:16, 17 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have translated the links in the 'about' section of the sidebar. The 'navigation', 'search' and 'tools' seem to already be translated, except for a few things like 'navigation' should be 'navigering', and 'Contact' should be 'Kontakt'.

What am I missing?

I have updated Template:Translation/Registration and marked "fa" as "published" but "فارسی" is not listed on Registration. What am I missing?! Tiredly yours, Huji 17:07, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is what you were missing. :-) Thanks for your help/translations/technical updates! :-) Cbrown1023 talk 20:04, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I nearly passed out last night. Apparently I was so tired that I couldn't think of such an obvious thing! Huji 07:27, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Inconsistency in the information

On Alexandria Security FAQ we read that there are three hotels available (Windsor, Metropol, Delta), but if we follow the link to Accommodation, we see that Windsor is not an option. Either of the two should be fixed.

Being on the topic, I think the address and telephone number of the dormitories is also missing on Accommodation.

Cheers, Huji 12:54, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fixed. The Accommodation choices for attendees are the Dorms and either Metropol or Delta. We have a few rooms in the Windsor speakers-only. Cbrown1023 talk 21:11, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Social Events

Would you please validate the contents of Social Events? And also, can you make them ready for translation process? Huji 21:04, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

They're valid, I have created the translation pages too. Thanks! Cbrown1023 talk 21:36, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

We have FAQ and FAQ/fr. Why don't we have trans-language links on the top of them? Huji 21:05, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

The page is not really ready for translation yet... it's not finished. :-( (We need the team to do it, but they haven't.) We don't want to give trans-language links because then people will want to translate it when it's not ready yet. Cbrown1023 talk 21:27, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Mido says we should have it ready in about a week. Cbrown1023 talk 21:37, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I continue to translate some parts of the site (Local information now) and I have remarked that some (many) pages are copyright violations. Some are the fact of Sara.tarek89 (d c), some of other users.

I think these pages are copyvios :

...and others. When the texts are really big, it comes often from another site ; it concerns a really big parts of pages in Local information. Sorry of having choosen you for this bad task ;) but some other admins could have a look also. ~ Seb35 [^_^] 16:17, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am on holiday right now, so I've asked Mido and Markie to take a look. Thanks for finding this. Cbrown1023 talk 23:13, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Sorry

No problem at all. These things happen in wikis :) - Aksi great 08:17, 21 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Arabic sidebar?

Why did you add Arabic to the sidebar? Why not the other languages? Why add it, at all, for "all" users? Why not to use a single link to the Arabic home page with uselang=ar in it instead? Am I asking too many questions?! Huji 18:10, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

...because Mido asked me to create an Arabic sidebar with links to the Arabic-language pages. When I tried that (MediaWiki:Sidebar/ar), it wouldn't work because MediaWiki stinks in that regard. :P Mido said he needed links to the Arabic pages and since Arabic+English are the "official" languages of this conference, we thought it would be an okay (but by no means the best) solution to put it in the sidebar. Would you mind looking into the code about this to see if it is possible to get rid of it? /me is forced to have his preferences lang set to Arabic... to see if it ever shows the Sidebar/ar and I can remove the Arabic text from the global sidebar... Cbrown1023 talk 19:57, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm convinced with the idea that, for Wikimania Alexandria, Arabic sidebar can be present all the time. Thanks Huji 16:35, 7 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
